Hello, my name is Jack Tyrrell and I'd like to welcome you to my website. I have been teaching piano lessons privately for over 38 years and love the challenge of working with both beginning students and professional musicians. I especially enjoy working with adult learners who have memories of playing when they were younger, as well as those who have always desired to play the piano.
Depending on your goals I will tailor my instruction to fit your needs. In addition to using method books,I also supplement my instruction with customized worksheets to ensure my students avoid the common obstacles that can hold them back from progressing. For the advanced and jazz piano students I have created a series of piano arrangements which can be played and/or analyzed depending on the level of the student. All of these supplemental materials were designed and notated using Sibelius Software, In addition, I use Band in the Box and Transcription as tools to help students work in an ensemble and develop their improvisational skills.

My approach to teaching:
I believe that learning to play the piano is based on the integration of sequential skills. Some might be musical or purely pianistic, while others might be technical or theoretical. For these reasons, I include the following content areas for all my elementary piano students.

Other specialized areas of instruction available to the more advanced or professional player include:
My personal goal as a teacher is to help each student find his/her own musical voice while becoming a well-rounded musician who is exposed to a variety of musical genres. |
